Mayor Jim Talbot
Thank you for visiting our Farmington City website. I am pleased to be serving as Mayor of one of the greatest communities in the country. We have everything you could want. We are nestled at the base of Utah's majestic mountains just north of Salt Lake City. We have over 100 miles of biking and walking trails. We have Station Park, a brand new shopping center with approximately one million square feet of some of the finest retail stores in the country. We have a commuter rail system, Front Runner, that can be accessed at Station Park to take commuters to their various destinations. We have a historical downtown area that has been preserved so all can enjoy the hometown feel of the past. Our homes and subdivisions are well planned and give beauty and provide open space for many residents who choose to live here. We have great schools, parks, and recreation facilities for our citizens to enjoy. Most importantly, we have wonderful citizens who care about their neighbors and the city of Farmington. We welcome you to our city and hope you will enjoy your time in Farmington.
Jim Talbot and his family have been residents of Farmington for 24 years. He graduated from BYU with a Public Relations and Business Degree. While attending BYU he played baseball where he was captain of the team and named an all-conference player. He was drafted to play professional baseball but chose other options.
He has been a real estate developer for the past 32 years. He has developed small shopping centers in several western states, but primarily in Utah. Sandy City named him Developer of the Year when he did a development for them.
He and his family have lived in Farmington, Utah, for the past 24 years. He has always enjoyed being involved in the community and served five years on the Planning Commission. From there he had a successful run at City Council where he served for four years. He then ran for Mayor and was successfully elected. As of Jan 1, 2014, he took over as the new Mayor of Farmington. In his 12 years of service with the city, Jim and his colleagues have taken Farmington to new heights. Some of these accomplishments include the addition of Station Park, a multi-million dollar regional shopping center, as well as carefully planned housing developments, Farmington's trail system, and the new City Offices complex.
He and his wife, Karen, are the parents of four children and ten grandchildren. They love living and serving Farmington and are actively involved in their community and church.
